When in Texas…

10 May

When Mom and I travel, we try to find places to eat that you can’t find anywhere else. A friend posted on Facebook about her trip to Babe’s Chicken Dinner House. It looked like the kind of food I love to eat, so we thought we’d give it a go.

Your first reaction is regarding the scenery. It’s like PopRocks for your eyes! You can’t ignore it! (The lighting is really dark inside, so excuse the poor quality of photography.)

Pictures don’t do it justice. Very unique and complete awesomeness.

Unfortunately, I didn’t take any pictures of the food. You don’t get a menu to order off of. Instead, your waitress tells you the 5 choices of meat, chicken tenders, chicken fried steak, catfish, fried chicken or grilled chicken. Each meat costs $11.99, unless you order the catfish which costs $12.99. (Kids meals are the same meat choices but smaller portions and cost 3.99.) Along with your meat you get served unlimited biscuits (with sorghum and honey), green beans, corn and mashed potatoes and gravy. We ordered the catfish and the chicken fried steak. Both were great, as well as all of the sides. We don’t normally order a dessert, but we did end up getting apple cobbler. We decided they needed wheelchairs to roll us out on, because we were so stuffed!

If you are ever in Texas, be sure to check out the great food and awesome decor at Babe’s Chicken Dinner House! The one we were at was in downtown Arlington, next to Mellow Mushroom (our North Carolina fave), but they have 9 other locations scattered about Texas.
