We were in Hobby Lobby the other day and I have been wanting to make candles for a while now. I had money burning a hole in my pocket, so Larkin and I headed over to the candle making aisle. I spent waaay too much time figuring out what I needed and wanted to try it. I ended up with a pound of paraffin wax, 2 scents, wicks and two canning jars.
Today, I went for it! I found instructions online and bravely proceeded forward, hoping that it would work and not catch on fire. (Apparently wax is flammable when it reaches a certain temperature. Who knew!) I melted the wax in a lame, homemade double boiler, shaved some brown crayon into it for color and added my scent. I am rather impressed with the results. The only thing I am unsure about is whether or not I added enough scent. We shall find out when I burn it. 1/3 of a pound of wax made one half pint candle. I can still make two more with the wax I bought. With some practice, I would like to maybe sell them. Obviously they won’t be professionally done, but that makes them each special as they are done by hand, individually! Would you be interested in buying one if I sell them? I would even be interested in experimenting with scents to create a scent just for you if you are brave enough!
